What Are PFAS "Forever Chemicals"?

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a group of over 12,000 man-made chemicals that have been manufactured and used in industries and consumer products since the 1940s. They are called "forever chemicals" because they do not break down naturally in the environment or the human body.

PFAS contamination is now detected in drinking water supplies, groundwater, soil, and surface water across the country. The EPA has set Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCLs) for six PFAS compounds in drinking water—enforcement has already begun.

  • Found at thousands of industrial and military sites nationwide
  • Linked to cancer, thyroid disease, and immune disruption
  • EPA MCLs set as low as 4 parts per trillion for PFOA & PFOS
  • Traditional treatment concentrates PFAS—it does not destroy them

PFAS molecular structure & contamination pathways

Patented Electrochemical Oxidation Technology

ShockPFAS™ uses a patented electrochemical advanced oxidation process (eAOP) that generates hydroxyl and sulfate radicals to mineralize PFAS compounds directly in the water matrix—permanently eliminating them.

Electrochemical Advanced Oxidation

Our proprietary boron-doped diamond (BDD) electrodes generate powerful oxidative radicals that break the ultra-strong carbon-fluorine (C-F) bonds in PFAS molecules, converting them to harmless fluoride, CO₂, and water.

Mobile, Containerized Units

Our systems are housed in standard ISO shipping containers, making them fully mobile and deployable to any site within days. Treat contaminated water where it is—no excavation, no transport of hazardous waste.

True Destruction — No Residual Waste

Unlike granular activated carbon (GAC) or ion exchange (IX) systems, ShockPFAS™ does not merely capture or concentrate PFAS. We destroy them completely, leaving no contaminated filter media to dispose of.

Scalable & Modular

Systems scale from thousands to millions of gallons per day. Multiple units can operate in parallel to meet any flow-rate requirement for municipal water systems or large industrial sites.

Remote Monitoring & Control

All units feature real-time SCADA integration, remote monitoring dashboards, and automated operational controls—providing continuous compliance documentation and reducing on-site staffing needs.

Regulatory Compliance Ready

Effluent quality data, chain-of-custody documentation, and compliance reporting are built into every ShockPFAS™ deployment, supporting EPA, state, and DOD regulatory requirements.

Industries & Applications

ShockPFAS™ serves a broad range of clients across commercial, industrial, and municipal sectors where PFAS contamination creates regulatory, liability, or operational challenges.

Municipal Water Utilities

Meet new EPA MCLs for PFOA, PFOS, PFNA, PFHxS, HFPO-DA, and PFBS in drinking water. Protect public health and maintain regulatory compliance without costly off-site disposal contracts.

  • Drinking water treatment trains
  • Groundwater extraction & treat
  • Source water protection

Airports & Aviation

Decades of AFFF (aqueous film-forming foam) use have left airports as some of the highest-priority PFAS remediation sites in the country. We handle AFFF-impacted groundwater and stormwater at scale.

  • AFFF-impacted groundwater
  • Fire training area treatment
  • Stormwater compliance

Industrial & Manufacturing

Chemical plants, semiconductor fabs, textile manufacturers, and other facilities using PFAS-containing compounds face growing liability. ShockPFAS™ addresses discharge permit compliance and site remediation.

  • Process wastewater treatment
  • Discharge permit compliance
  • Site remediation support

Military & Defense

Military installations across the US are among the most PFAS-impacted sites due to historical AFFF use. Our mobile units provide operational flexibility needed for active bases and base closure sites.

  • Active installation compliance
  • Base closure (BRAC) remediation
  • DOD regulatory reporting

Fire Training Facilities

Fire departments and training centers that used AFFF for decades now face significant PFAS liability in soil and groundwater. Our systems can treat extracted groundwater to regulatory closure levels.

  • Groundwater pump-and-treat
  • Soil leachate treatment
  • Site closure documentation

Landfills & Waste Management

PFAS-laden leachate from municipal solid waste landfills represents one of the largest diffuse PFAS pollution pathways. ShockPFAS™ systems treat high-concentration leachate streams on-site.

  • High-concentration leachate
  • PFAS concentrate destruction
  • Discharge compliance

Validated Performance Data

ShockPFAS™ technology has been independently tested and validated at laboratory, pilot, and full-scale deployments across multiple site types and PFAS matrices.

>99%
PFOA & PFOS Destruction

Independent third-party testing confirms greater than 99% destruction of long-chain PFAS including PFOA and PFOS in a single pass through the ShockPFAS™ electrochemical reactor.

<4 ppt
Effluent Quality Achieved

Treated effluent has consistently tested below 4 parts per trillion for PFOA and PFOS—meeting current EPA MCLs—across multiple site deployments with varied influent concentrations.

12,000+
PFAS Compounds Targeted

The electrochemical oxidation mechanism is effective across PFAS compound classes—including PFOA, PFOS, PFNA, PFHxS, PFBS, GenX, and short-chain precursors—not just regulated compounds.

Multi-Site
Proven Deployments

ShockPFAS™ systems have been successfully deployed at municipal water utilities, industrial facilities, and AFFF-impacted sites—demonstrating consistent performance across varied water matrices.

Who Is ShockPFAS™?

ShockPFAS™ is an environmental technology company built around a singular mission: permanently destroying PFAS contamination in water using patented electrochemical advanced oxidation technology.

We were founded by a team of electrochemical engineers, environmental scientists, and remediation specialists who recognized that the existing approach to PFAS—capture and concentrate—was not a solution. It was a deferral. We built ShockPFAS™ to change that.

Our technology is the result of years of research, rigorous independent testing, and real-world deployments. We serve commercial, industrial, and municipal clients who need compliant, permanent, cost-effective PFAS remediation—not another filter to change.

Science-Driven

Every system we deploy is backed by validated electrochemistry and real field performance data.

Permanent Solutions

We don't move PFAS problems—we eliminate them. No concentrated waste. No deferred liability.

Client-Focused

From initial site assessment to regulatory closure, we partner with clients throughout the entire remediation lifecycle.
